"DO NOT RUN, WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS!"
Allright, this is my guide for the best hero in DotA; The Goblin Techies. You may ask, why is he the best hero? Read, and you know.

Hero Story:
"Devilishly clever, the goblin techies, despite their small physical presence, are a force to be reckoned with. In line with their goblin brethren, the techies have the skill of laying mines in the earth, invisible to the naked eye. Also, after extensive training with the Orcish voodoo priests of Kalimdor, the Techies are adept at laying paralysis-inducing traps along with their potent explosives. Wary be the foe who takes these three lightly."

Q: Why this kind of skill build?
A: I personally HATE Techies players, who go for kills with suicide. Suicide should only be used to deny yourself and also deal damage to your enemies if possible. This will prevent them from getting EXP & gold from killing you, and your allies might score a kill or two when you place suicide carefully, even when denying.
The fact is, that Techies = Mines. Allways use Mines, place them smartly and profit.
You got the best AoE stun in the whole game, even tho' it needs a good placing and timing.
Also, remember, place the mines on top of a hill, and even a gem carrier will run into them before he even notices them. A-HA!

After some wild BOOM action:

After successful terrorist attacks, you should buy asap:

Alternative build after successful terrorist attacks:

After exploding every single hero at least once* (after good & delicious farm*)

I personally prefer Guinsoo over Aghanim's, because Hex is... the best spell in game imo.
Eul's will give you much needed movement speed, and Phase Boots give you (surprisingly!) the ability to Phase, which increase your movement speed for a short time aswell. After change of Phase Boots, you will lack armor, but I still prefer Phase over BoT.
After a successful heist at a local gold store, you have lots and lots of shiny gold. LUXURY ITEMS:

Explanation to Luxury Items:
Scepter is first in the list, because it improves your remote mines by giving your more casting range AND more damage. (Read: Make this if you got time!)
Shiva's = Nuke, slow and armor. Do I have to say more?
Orchid = Very, very unlikely to be made. You dont really need silence and amplified damage. However, this aint a rejected item.
Skadi = Slow, stats, HP, mana... It has everything.
Necrocomicon = Very situational, most likely you can pass this item, unless you got a really good farm going on and the game lasts for long.
REJECTED ITEMS:
The item you cant find from the list, you dont need. HA!

4. Heroes
UGLY ENEMIES:
Nukers:

Nukers are annoying, because they can nuke you down BEFORE you suicide.
True Sight:
"Hullo, I can see your mines. Having fun?"
Heroes that can avoid your mines:

These guys got either skills, or summoned units / clones, that can activate your land mines without getting damaged themselves. Annoying bastards.
Also, all kinds of stunners, silencers are nasty, because Techies is a fragile hero, and you will be an easy target if you cant suicide.
Handsome (and not so handsome) allies:
The guys who trigger your mines!

...Vacuum, Hook, Shackle, Toss...
Also, all kinds of stunners with long stun (Alchemist, Dragon Knight, PotM) are great allies, because you get time to place your mines just perfectly!

5. Strategy
Below, you can see some great places to plant your remotes as wards!
^Bottom river, for Sentinel anti-gank.
^Bottom river, runespot / anti-gank.
^Top river, runespot / anti-gank (for mid & top)
^Scourge anti-gank @ top.

Spots for first blood:
^Ideal place for getting FB as Scourge.
^Ideal place for getting FB as Sentinel.

Just to give some ideas, how to counter ganks at early with landmines:
^A great anti-gank landmine position for early...
The screenshots are here to show you just few examples.

6. Gameplay
Level 1-6
First of all you need to pick Techies as fast as possible. Use you TP scroll to teleport to your lane (bot for Sentinel, Top for scourge, sometimes mid solo). Place 4 Mines at the spots shown above.
Thanks to your Clarities you can spam more Mines (The spot depends on how much you pushed). Always keep an eye on how the creeps are walking, they are staying near to one side of forest, you better look which side..
Runespot with 1 Remote as Ward.
- Level 6-11
When you hit level 6, start looking if any of your teammate's lanes needs help. If so, run or teleport there, plant some land mines and remotes, and go back to your own lane! The mines will prevent your enemies from pushing, and when you go back to your own lane, you wont lack any XP!
When you hit level 11 you will have Eul's & Boots (at least).
- Level 11-16
Now, you should have some kills with your remotes or landmines, if you plant them alot. Try to push as much as possible, but allways keep a TP scroll with you (If you DONT have Boots of Travel). Easy and fast pushing & farming.
- Level 16+
Go together with your team. You have disable, stun and nukes. You are a great help, even if the enemies dont think that. The disables, ofcourse depends on your itembuild.
- Farming
Techies is one of the best farmers in the game. With just 1-2 land mines (or 1 remote and 1 land mine) you will clear the whole creep wave. Techies is also pretty good as a jungler, because he can clear the whole creep camp without taking damage himself (Mines, mines and mines!)
NOTE: Aghanim's Scepter remotes is capable of killing the whole wave of creeps with just one remote!
I aint sure about lvl 16 remote, it should do the job aswell!
-
Suiciding
NEVER GO FOR KILLS WITH SUICIDE. Allright, you might do it sometimes, if you use your brains and your teammate e.g. gets a double kill, thats a good feed for your teammate. Otherwise, try to
DENY yourself with suicide.
---
Allright, this guide is just to show you some examples of how playing Techies. I dont play competitional games, and I dont know is Techies picked often, but atleast its a fun hero to play!
Hard to master, master to win.
